The Society stresses individual expression through an understanding of the classical methods of drawing and painting: learning to draw the mass and planes of the human form, developing a drawing procedure, understanding figure structure, proportion and artistic anatomy, developing light and shade, and analyzing design and composition.

Individual instruction is the primary focus wih class demonstration given during model breaks.

Session Description:
Ellen Soderquist has exhibited her drawings of the figure and taught life drawing since 1979. As an artist, Soderquist creates intelligent and sensuous pencil drawings of the human body. As a teacher, she advocates that her students not only learn the techniques of life drawing but that they also understand the history of the nude as an art form.

Ellen teaches private classes in her studio near Coit and Belt Line.

An instructional DVD “The Art of Gesture” can be purchased at .

Can’t commit to 6 weeks of classes?
You can substitute for students when they have to miss a class.

Session Description:
One model for the entire month, 2 drawing sessions of 10-2's for gesture 2-5's and a 10 minute pose the rest 20's, 1 session of 10-2's, 2-5's and a 10 and 2-1hour poses and one session of a 3-hour pose in that order. It's my understanding that you may use any medium you wish with the exception of large scale oils where the evaporation of the turpentine creates an odor problem for some people. One of the sessions most likely the last will be clothed with some type of costume, Spanish dancer, Gypsy, Belly Dancer or maybe something formal... Egon Schele inspired.
